HORSES READY FOR ADOPTION

After a lot of thought, evaluation, and training, we have made the decision to offer Roman for adoption as a companion horse only.

Roman has had extensive training and we have given him every opportunity to become a riding horse. However, Roman has made it pretty clear that being ridden just isn’t the job he wants. Under saddle, he basically has one comfortable speed — a walk — and when asked for more, he may buck.

We have had a lot of interest in this handsome boy, and we know there are people who would still be willing to take him as a riding horse. But at SSRR, our responsibility doesn’t end when a horse leaves our property. We cannot responsibly or morally adopt Roman out as a riding horse knowing what he has consistently shown us under saddle.

And that is okay.

Not every horse needs to have a riding job to have value. Roman deserves a family who will love him for exactly who he is and give him a wonderful life as a companion.

Roman truly is an easy boy to have around. He loves attention, is perfect for the vet and farrier, loads, ties, and is a very easy keeper. He has so many wonderful qualities and would make a great companion for the right family.

We truly believe there is a person for every horse, and we are hoping Roman’s person is out there waiting for him.
