Captain: Sassy boy Captain is a 20 yr old Arabian! Captain came in with his ears pinned non stop last May. We gave him time to settle in and learn our routine and ask nothing of him for approx. 30 days. We slowly started working with him however he was still not ready. Not only was he threatening with pinning his ears, he started acting on it. He offered to bite and if you tried to pick up his hooves at all, he would try to kick and bite. We decided to give him more time to adjust and learn that he is ok and could trust us. I started working with him again. He round pens great with ears up however as soon as he is on or off lead and you talk to him or ask anything of him, he pins his ears and actually snarls at you. I had to vet out and he said it was fear based. I started slowly working with him, touching him all over first with stick and string slowly everyday then my hands and brushes all over him. Round penning, backing, yielding, moving. I could finally pick up his front hooves however the farrier came and it was def a big no. We will continue to slowly work with him and try to meet him where he is however we need to get him safe to handle. Up to date on all vetting. If there is a home out there that is looking for a companion horse and is a trainer or experienced that can provide sedation for trims until you train him up, please reach out to us.
